Self Care Musts

Hi guys! So like I said in my last post, International Self-care Day was July 24th. With this in mind, I thought, why not do a post about the importance of self care? Self care musts are something I believe everyone should have in their lives. Of course there’s an endless amount of feel good things you could do here, and you are more than encouraged to do whatever makes you happy, so today Ill just be talking about the essentials.

Sleep
Sleep is one of the most essential yet also most overlooked aspects of self care. Sleep has a massive effect on us both physically and mentally, and getting enough is so important. So to start your self care routine, lets take a look at your average night. Blue light from screens should be reduced as much as you can at night. This light tricks your body into thinking its daytime, meaning falling asleep will be increasingly harder. A consistence sleep schedule is so important. If possible, try to get to sleep and wake up at the same time every day. Even this small change can make a difference.

The Great Outdoors
Spending time outdoors is one of the best things you can do for mental and physical health! Fresh air and sunlight has been proven to reduce stress and lower blood pressure, as well as vitamin D being so necessary for the body. While you’re outside, why not go for a short walk? Exercise has been shown to boost moods and lower anxiety. Add a short walk or activity outside to your self care routine and you will feel the benefits immediately!

Eat Right

What you eat is so important to your mental and physical health, and though treating yourself to a junky meal every now and then can be a nice comfort, its also necessary to create a healthy meal plan to incorporate into your self care routine. Check out Katies post for more detail.

Organisation
Being organised is the biggest stress reliever to me. I enjoy planning things out meticulously, colour coding my college notes and journals, making note of everything I have planned on my calendar and saving every train or bus ticket I get. I am a bit overboard on this Ill admit, but organisation is key to an easy life. Just keeping a diary of calendar of your plans makes things so much clearer and reduces plan anxiety. I would highly recommend even on your phone keeping note of your daily plans.

Self Care Emergencies
We all need to take a self care day sometimes. It could be due to an unforeseen circumstance or simply a bad day, but in times like these its important to have a plan set out so you don’t fall into a negativity hole. Self care plans are so important and I’d highly recommend making one. It can include talking to a friend or family member, eating your favourite meal, watching a movie or show or whatever you’re into, having a self care plan will give you a spark of positivity on a bad day. I recommend researching self care kits, small boxes of things to treat yourself with when youre having a bad day.

I really hope some of this post gets through to you. You are all amazing people so worthy of love, not only from others but from yourselves. Please treat yourselves to an amazing day for me.
